Unang nakilala bilang matinik na kuwentista si Benjamin P. Pascual bago sineryoso ang pagiging nobelista. Nagsimula siyang sumulat noong dekada 1950, sumubok mag-ambag sa komiks, hanggang hiranging maging staffer ng Liwayway. Nagwagi sa Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature ang kanyang mga kuwentong "Landas sa Bahaghari" (1965) at "Di ko Masilip Ang Langit" (1981). Nagtamo naman ng Grand Prize sa Cultural Center of the Philippines ang nobelang "Utos ng Hari" noong 1975. Makalipas ang ilang dekadang dibdibang pagsusulat ni Pascual, kinilala ng Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL) noong 1994 ang natatanging ambag niya sa pagsusulat ng maikling kuwento, dula at nobela.
